Helmut Kunisch was a Swiss long-distance runner who specialised in the marathon. Kunisch was selected to run in the race at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, finishing 44th out of the 75 athletes who started the course. The following year he finished second at the national marathon championship in a time of 2-32:27. He was just over a minute behind the winner, but both times were outside the qualification mark to compete at the 1969 European Athletics Championships in Greece, with no Swiss athletes running in the race.
