Biography

Sven Emil Lundgren’s greatest international success was the bronze medal in the 3,000 m team race at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics. Individually he placed only fifth in the 1,500 m at the same Olympics. Lundgren was mainly a middle-distance runner, winning four Swedish titles each over 800 and 1,500 metres, including three consecutive doubles in 1919-21. He also held the world record in the non-Olympic distances of 1,000 metres (1922-26) and the 4x1,500 with his club team IK Göta (1919-25). In addition, he bettered the Swedish record for the 800 in 1921. In 1928 he was appointed “Stor grabb” # 42 in Athletics. Lundgren later worked as warehouse manager in Stockholm.

Personal Bests: 800 – 1:54.3 (1921); 1500 – 3:59.3 (1924); 3000 – unknown.
