Biography

Curt Söderberg was Swedish junior champion in the 1,500 m steeplechase in 1946-47, but was not selected for the 1948 Olympic team. In 1949 he won the Swedish National Championships and won the steeplechase in the USA vs Nordics meet. He would win the Swedish title from 1949-55. Söderberg was world-ranked in the top 10 for eight straight years (1947-54), ranking #1 in 1949 and #4 in 1950. In 1952 he broke the Swedish national record (8:55.6) in the Olympic final and improved that to 8:52.8 in 1954. He competed through 1957, but never at quite the same level. Söderberg worked as a craft teacher.
