At the 1976 Olympics, Lyudmila Aksenova won bronze in the 4×400 and was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 400. In addition to her Olympic bronze, she won golds in the 4×1 lap and 4×2 laps relay at the 1971 European Indoor Championships, and the 4×2 laps relay at the 1975 European Indoor Championships.
Aksenova also won bronze at the 1977 World Cup with the Soviet 4×400 relay team, and won her only Soviet title in 1976 in the 400, also winning 400 and 4×400 bronzes at the 1971 Soviet Championships and 400 bronze at the 1974 Soviet Championships.
