Biography

Tanya Hughes was a high jumper who finished tied for 11th at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She was a three-time USA junior indoor champion (1989-91) and then won the USA outdoor title in 1992 and 1992. Hughes attended the University of Arizona, winning the NCAA title indoor in 1991 and outdoors in 1991-93. In 1993 Hughes won the high jump at the World University Games. She also competed at the World Championships in 1993, finishing seventh. In 1994 Hughes was announced as the NCAA Woman of the Year, an award recognizing excellence in athletics, academics, and community leadership..
