Biography

In addition to his Olympic appearance, Art Burns threw the discus for the US at the 1983 World Championships (8th), and the 1987 Pan American Games (5th). His best finish at the TAC Meet was second in 1985, also finishing fourth in 1982 and 1983. Burns also competed at the ersatz 1980 US Olympic Trials, finishing 11th. He competed for the University of Colorado and Athletics West, finishing fifth at the 1977 NCAA Meet. Burns was world ranked in the top 10 for six consecutive years (1981-86), with a high ranking of #4 in 1982 and 1986.

Personal Best: DT – 71.17 (233-6) (1983).
