Biography

Walter McCoy was a 400 metre runner who won a gold medal in the 4x400 relay at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. McCoy attended Florida State University, where he finished third in the 400 at the 1980 NCAA Meet, after placing fifth in 1978, and was then fourth in that event in 1981. He was second at the TAC Meet in 1984 and third in 1986 and 1988. He was world ranked in the top 10 four times, with a high ranking of #3 in 1981, and a high US ranking of #2 the same year. McCoy later became a high school track coach in Ormond Beach, Florida.

Personal Best: 400 – 44.76 (1984).
