Biography

Vern McGrew placed at the NCAA high jump from 1948-50 – he was equal third in 1948, equal second in 1949, and won the event in 1950. He competed for Rice University, lettering for four years and twice winning the high jump at the Southwest Conference meet. At the AAU Meet he was third in 1948 and fifth in 1949. McGrew later attended graduate school at the University of Texas, and then served in the military for two years before returning to UT for law school. He later worked for Exxon as chief lobbyist.
