Biography

David Munson secured the New York State Cornell Scholarship for Orleans County while attending Medina High School and, after entering Cornell, soon proved himself to be a valuable member of the track team. In his sophomore year he won the IC4A mile in 4:25.6 and, after winning the AAU mile in the extraordinarily slow time of 4:41.2, he went to St. Louis for the Olympics. At the Games, Munson finished fourth in the 1,500m in addition to running for the winning New York AC team in the four mile team race. In 1905, Munson again won the IC4A mile and set a new world indoor record for 1½-miles and a new Cornell record for the mile outdoors. In 1906 he captained the Cornell track and cross-country teams. On leaving Cornell, David Munson entered New York Law School and, after graduating in 1909, embarked on a distinguished career in law.

Personal Bests: 1500 – 4:08.8e (1904); Mile – 4:25.2 (1905).
