Biography

Terry Porter had three podium finishes at the AAU pole vault – 1973 (3rd), 1974 (2nd), and 1975 (2nd), and was also fourth in 1976. He was sixth at the 1974 NCAA Meet, competing for Kansas, and won the 1972 NCAA Indoor title. He tied for second at the 1973 Universiade. While at Kansas, Porter twice won the Big 8 pole vault title, both indoors and outdoors. He later worked in roofing and at Ranchland Hills County Club. Porter also continued to compete in masters’ track & field meets, ranking 6th in the world in 2004 in the 50-55 age group with a mark of 14-11½ (4.56).

Personal Best: PV – 5.55 (18-2½) (1980).
