Biography

Chuck Smith won the AAU 200 in 1972. He also placed sixth in the 1971 AAU and the 1970 NCAA. In 1970 he was NCAA College Division champion at both 100 and 220 yards, although that was his first year of track competition. At the 1972 Olympics Smith ran the final with the flu and a 105° F. (40.5° C.) temperature.

Smith ran for Occidental College, graduating in 1970, and the Southern Cal Striders. He also did graduate work at Southern Cal, finishing in 1972. Smith was elected to the Occidental College Track & Field Hall of Fame.

Personal Bests: 100y – 9.3 (1971); 100 – 10.2 (1972); 200 – 20.55 (1972).
