Max Hebeisen

Swiss welterweight boxer Max Hebeisen was a two-time national champion, winning the title in 1965 and in 1967. The following year Hebeisen fought in the welterweight tournament at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics where he beat Mohamed Bouchara before losing to Armando Muniz.

In 1969 Hebeisen turned professional, winning 36 of his 42 pro fights including nine by knock-out. He fought British boxer John H. Stracey in 1975 for the European welterweight title, with Stracey retaining his title in the sixth round of the contest. Hebeisen retired from boxing early the following year. After his retirement Hebeisen worked at the Athletic Box Club Bern before becoming the club’s manager in 1999. He continued to work at the boxing club until the end of 2013.
