Biography

Anna Galmarini was an Italian figure skater who competed at the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics. She also appeared at the World Championships from 1958-60 and the European Championships from 1957-60, with her best finish at the Europeans a sixth in 1960. She was Italian singles champion from 1957-60. In an era of compulsory figures, Galmarini was hampered by that requirement as she was noted to be a sublime free skater.

After the 1960 World Championships in Vancouver, Galmarini began touring in Europe with Holiday on Ice. She spent six years with that group, winning the 1965 World Professional Figure Skating Championship at Wembley. She joined Holiday on Ice’s USA tour in 1966 but was briefly shipped back to Europe and then returned to the USA. Frustrated with that itinerant agenda, she left Holiday on Ice in 1967 and joined Ice Capades, where she met her husband, Jules Mayeur, a technician with the show.

She retired from performance in 1987 but sadly succumbed to cancer ten years later at the age of 54.
