Biography

East German singles figure skater Simone Koch finished eighth at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. At the age of 14 she burst onto the scene, winning the 1983 Youth World Championships, and the following year won a silver medal. Her career, however, was overshadowed by Katarina Witt. Koch came second behind Witt at the East German nationals in 1984 and 1988 and was third in 1985-87, and 1989. Koch later raised two daughters and a son.
