After the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Games West German alpine skier Anneliese Meggl married a US citizen and became a Vail resident. At Squaw Valley she narrowly missed a bronze medal in the downhill, finishing sixth, and also competed in the giant slalom (fifth) and slalom (13th). She was West German downhill champion in 1959. After marriage she and her husband, Clay Freeman, settled in Vail, Colorado, USA where Anneliese worked with Dave and Renie Gorsuch on their renowned high-end winter clothing retailer.
