Biography

Monika Mrklas was a West German cross country skier. However, she entered the international sports scene as a cyclist at the 1967 World Road Championships, finishing 26th. One year later she won the West German national cycling road race title. As she also won the national 5 km cross country skiing title, she was nominated for the Grenoble Winter Games where she placed 17th and 20th over 5 km and 10 km, respectively. With the 3x5 km relay team she finished seventh. Four years later in Sapporo the relay team missed the podium, finishing fourth. In the 5 km event Mrklas finished 24th, but did not finish the 10 km race.
