Biography

Born in the Aosta Valley in Northern Italy close to France, Fulvia Stevenin was an international skier in the 1980s. A star as a youth, in 1983 she was Junior World Champion in slalom at Sestriere, Italy, and also finished sixth in giant slalom at that tournament.

At only 18 Stevenin took part at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics in the two technical races but did not finish either event. The slalom was won by Paola Magoni-Sforza, a friend and roommate of hers, both coached by Toni Morandi in the Gressoney Ski Club. In the World Cup Stevenin had two 12th places as best results, both in Italy, in the Piancavallo slalom on 17 December 1982 and in the giant slalom in Santa Caterina Valfurva on 18 December 1984. Nationally she won the giant slalom title three times in 1983, 1985, and 1987. She retired at age 22 in 1987.
