Biography

In the 1950s and 1960s Lauri Bergqvist won several cross-country skiing championship titles in Finland. In 1962 Bergqvist competed at the World Championships in Zakopane, Poland, where he finished in 21st place in the 50km race. Two years later he competed in the same distance at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics, finishing 15th. Bergqvist trained on aluminium roller skis made in East Germany, which were later displayed in the Kouvola City Museum.
