Biography

Austrian figure skater Willy Bietak, son of Ilse Hornung, partnered Gerlinde Schönbauer at the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. The pair finished 12th and won the Austrian nationals from 1963-66. Four years later he teamed up with Evelyne Schneider and placed 15th at Grenoble. From 1964-71, Bietak regularly participated as a pairs skater in European and World Championships without any great success.

Bietak won nine national titles. He later founded his own production company based at Santa Monica, California. They produced high quality live entertainment, ice skating shows, and state-of-the-art portable ice rinks for events, as well as industrial shows, specialty acts and costumed characters. He was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2009.
