Biography

A center, Paul Coppo played college hockey for Michigan Tech, leading the team to the final of the NCAA Championship in 1960. He was named First-Team All-American that year. Coppo went in to a long career with the Green Bay Bobcats of the United States Hockey League, playing for them from 1960-75, with 227 goals and 325 assists with the Bobcats, and then played some very minor league hockey with the Copper Country Chiefs. He later coached the Bobcats and eventually became their owner. In addition to his 1964 Olympic appearance, Coppo skated for the US at the 1962, 1965, 1966, and 1969 World Championships.

Coppo later coached youth hockey for over 30 years and in 2004, mostly with the De Pere Youth Hockey Association, was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame, and then in 2006 became a member of the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame. His business career began at Green Bay Drop Forge, but he later moved to Green Bay Structural Steel, Wheeling Steel, and eventually became co-owner of Upper Lakes Coal and Fox River Dock.
