Francisco de Ridder was one of nine children born to the Argentine businessman Luis de Ridder and his wife Yvonne Perrier. Luis was born in Belgium, arriving in Argentina in 1907 to found a cereal company, with the family living in a mansion in Buenos Aires. Francisco was a keen skier and was selected to compete in the slalom at the 1952 Oslo Olympics. He placed 55th after the first run, with only the top-32 progressing to the second and final run.
Several of Francisco’s siblings also competed in winter sports at the Olympics. His brother Marcelo was part of the two-man and four-man bobsleigh teams at the 1948 Games in St. Moritz. Another brother, Luis, was also an Alpine skier, competing at the both the 1948 and 1952 Games. His sister Astrid was scheduled to take part in the slalom at the Oslo Games but did not start the event.
