Everett Dunklee was Vermont cross-country running champion in high school in 1962 and 1963. He later attended the University of New Hampshire on a track scholarship, where he ran track and cross-country. But he also competed in cross-country skiing, making the 1972 Winter Olympic team. Dunklee later became a commercial pilot for the North Carolina and US Forest Services, piloting aerial tankers over forest fires in the late 1970s.
