Biography

George Ede was a Corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces when he was selected to represent his nation in biathlon at the 1968 Winter Olympics, having placed second in that year’s Canadian National Biathlon Championships, behind Esko Karu.

At the Games he finished 51st in a field of 60 competitors (although still the second highest of four Canadians, again behind Karu) in the 20km event and also competed in the 4 x 7.5km relay alongside Karu, Knowles McGill, and George Rattai. A career military man, he served in the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada before moving through the ranks in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.
