Born in Ontario, Canada in 1936 Giovanni Furlani went on to represent the Italian national ice hockey team in the mid-to-late 1950s. Furlani was selected as part of Italy’s Olympic team for the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Games where he played in six games and scored a goal in their 8–2 win against Austria. He remained in Italy for a few years after the Olympics, playing a season for HC Bolzano. Furlani returned home to Canada where he worked as a health inspector and started a family.
