Biography

Swiss sportsman Jean-Pierre Gottschall took up the luge at a young age and finished as the runner-up at the 1959 Junior European Championships. Gottschall stuck with the sport and made it onto the national team, which saw him compete in the singles at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics. Although he finished in last place at the Olympics he continued with the sport, becoming the Swiss singles champion in 1966, and the national singles and doubles champion in 1967. Following his retirement Gottschall coached the Swiss team from 1967 until 1982.
