Biography

Brett Hauer was a defenseman who played at the University of Minnesota – Duluth. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round of the 1989 NHL Draft. Hauer only played 37 games in the NHL, eventually with the Edmonton Oilers and the Nashville Predators. He played mostly in the AHL (American Hockey League) and IHL (International Hockey League), primarily with the Manitoba Moose from 1997-2001.

After that, Hauer spent the rest of his career in Europe, playing in Switzerland for Genève-Servette HC, EV Zug and HC Davos through 2005. He then played one season with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the Russian Super League before finishing his career with EHC Basel in Switzerland, retiring in 2008.

In addition to his 1994 Winter Olympic appearance, Hauer played five times for the US at the World Championships – in 1993, 1995, and 2003-05. In the IHL he was a first-team All-Star in 1999, 2000, and 2001, and was awarded the Governor’s Trophy as top defensemen in the league in 2000 and 2001.
