Biography

Ice hockey defense Ulrich “Uli” Hiemer was on the (West) German hockey squads at the 1984 Sarjevo, 1988 Calgary, and 1992 Albertville Winter Games. He also participated in the 1982-83, 1985, 1989-90, 1992-93, and 1995 World Championships. Internationally, he won 157 caps and scored 13 goals. Uli Hiemer was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame. His brother Jörg was also a professional hockey player.

Domestically, Ulrich Hiemer played for EV Füssen (1979-81), Kölner Haie (1981-84, and Düsseldorfer EG (1987-96). He won six national titles, with Kölner Haie (1984) and Düsseldorfer (1990-93, 1996). Between 1984-87 Hiemer played in the North American Pro League NHL with the New Jersey Devils. He was the first West German to play in the League.
