Biography

Swiss ice hockey defenseman Paul Hofer represented EHC Basel from 1949 to 1960. Throughout the summer months Hofer kept up his fitness levels by joining the gymnastics club Rotweiss Basel. During the 1950s he played multiple matches for the Swiss national team, including captaining them at the 1954 World Championships. Two years earlier he had competed at the 1952 Oslo Olympics where the team finished fifth. The ice hockey tournament in Oslo also served as both the World and European Championships, resulting in Switzerland winning bronze at the latter. Hofer made his second appearance at the Olympics four years later at the 1956 Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo. He retired as a player in 1961 and worked as a coach.
