Austrian cross-country skier and biathlete Josef Hones was a member of the 4x7,5 km biathlon relay team at the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. He ran the anchor leg after Franz-Josef Weber, Alfred Eder and Klaus Farbmacher, but they finished 15th and last.
Hones was also active as a ski mountaineer and won the Kainach mountain marathon in 1987, 1989-90, and 1993. He was also the first winner of the cross-country competition 12 hours of Bärnkopf in 1982. He later supported para sportspeople.
