Biography

Louis Jäggi was a Swiss cross-country skier who won bronze medals in the 30 km and 50 km at the 1971 Swiss Championships, leading to his selection for the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics. He later became a prominent promoter of skiing in the Jauntal and Friborg region. In the early 1970s he persuaded his national teammates to compete at the night cross-country ski run Im Fang and the New Year’s Day run in Jaunso. This led to the Gruyère cross-country ski week, still held into the 2020s.

Jäggi retired from high-level sport in 1974 but was a top administrator of local and regional races and patrols. He worked as a fortress guard but in 1975 became a gamekeeper, a job he held for over 30 years.
