Biography

Matti Keinonen was a left winger who played ice hockey for Finland at the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Winter Games. He also competed nine times at the World Championships in 1962-63, 1965-67, 1969-70, and 1972-73. He played most of his Finnish career with Lukko and RU-38, winning Finnish titles in 1962/63 (Lukko) and 1966/67 (RU-38). In 1966/67 he led the SM-sarja league in goals and points. Keinonen’s #7 was retired by Lukko. He was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987 and the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2002. He later became a coach and led TPS to the Finnish Championship in 1985 and Lukko in 1988.
