Biography

Vello Kaaristo was an Estonian cross-country skier. Kaaristo competed in two races at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics. Kaaristo finished in 30th place in the 18 kilometres and in 23rd place in the 50 kilometres. From 1931 to 1945 Kaaristo won 12 gold, four silver, and four bronze medals at the Estonian championships. Kaaristo was a three-time Baltic champion in the early 1940s.

Kaaristo also boxed and was a regional champion in the lightweight category from 1931–34. From 1944 to 1950 Kaaristo was the chairman of the Võrumaa Sports Committee. In 1940 he was awarded with the Order of the Cross of the Eagle.
