Biography

Canadian-born ice hockey defense Harold Kreis moved to West Germany in 1978, playing with Mannheimer ERC until 1997. In 1980 and 1997, Mannheim won the national championship. Kreis was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

Internationally, Kreis won 180 caps and appeared at two Winter Olympics, in 1984 at Sarajevo and 1988 at Calgary. He also competed at 10 World Championships. Kreis later embarked on a coaching career, firstly in Switzerland, helping HC Lugano, and then HZ Zürich, win the national championships in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Kreis then moved back to Germany to coach Düsseldorfer EG in 2008-09, and again from 2018. Between 2010-13 he was coach at Mannheimer Adler. Additionally, he worked as an assistant coach with the German national team. Between 2013-18 he returned to work with pro teams in Switzerland.
