Biography

Alan Culpepper was an American distance runner who competed at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. He attended the University of Colorado, winning the 1996 NCAA 5,000 metre title. Culpepper won three US cross-country titles (1999, 2003, 2007) and three titles on the track, two at 10,000 (2001, 2003) and one at 5K (2002). He competed in the 10K at the 1999 and 2001 World Championships.

Culpepper eventually turned to the roads, winning the 2004 US Olympic Trials marathon. He placed fifth at the 2006 Boston Marathon and was sixth at the 2002 Chicago Marathon.

Culpepper married the former Shayne Wille. They settled near Boulder, Colorado and in 2019 Alan Culpepper became a high school cross-country coach.
