Biography

Brent Abernathy was a baseball player who helped the USA win a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He had previously won gold at the 1995 World Junior Baseball Championships. Abernathy played infield at The Lovett School in Atlanta, Georgia, and in 1995 won the Dial Award as the national high school scholar-athlete of the year. He was then drafted in the second round of the 1996 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Abernathy played in the minors for the Blue Jays organization until 2000 when he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. He came up to the majors in 2001 with the Rays and played for them through 2003. He ended the 2003 season with the Kansas City Kings and then in 2005 played for the Minnesota Twins, ending his major league career after that season. From 2006-09 Abernathy played in various independent minor leagues.
