Carlos, Marqués de Guadalupe

Carlos, Marques de Guadalupe was an accomplished sportsman with interest in fencing and gymnastics, but he was primarily known as a horseman. He played polo, worked with the Mexican Equestrian School for many years, served as President of the Racing Commission of the Mexican Jockey Club, and wrote several books on horsemanship. Marques de Guadalupe was educated at Stonyhurst College in England, and owned large amounts of land in Mexico.

In February 1923 he was visited at his home in Mexico by IOC President Henri, Count de Baillet-Latour, who was returning from Brazil. They found they had much in common, both being aristocractic and socially prominent, and both with a love of equestrianism and polo. Five weeks later, Count de Baillet-Latour had the Marques de Guadalupe co-opted onto the IOC. However, he served for only a little over one year, resigning in July 1924. No IOC Sessions were even held during his IOC mandate.
