Biography

Augustín Sosa studied medicine at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, USA, and then returned to Panama where he practiced medicine and was a professor of physiology. He was in charge of the Panamanian delegation at the 3rd Central American and Caribbean Games at San Salvador in 1935, and then was responsible for Panama being selected to host the 1938 CAC Games. Sosa was elected President of Panama’s National Basketball Federation in 1946, and became a member of the Panama Olympic Committee in 1952. He was also co-opted onto the IOC in 1952, serving until his death in 1990.
