Biography

Edwin Jarvis was a former referee and was one of the first batch of referees appointed to the new Class 1 list by the Football Association in 1900. He went on to become president of the Hampshire FA, and served on the FA Council from 1907 as the Hampshire representative. Jarvis once took a touring team to the Netherlands as a result of his connections as a director of Southampton FC. In 1908 he was a linesman for the Denmark against France “B” match at the Olympics. Jarvis moved from Southampton to London and went on to become a Hammersmith councillor. He was a good cricketer and was an active playing member of the Shepherd’s Bush Cricket Club for more than 30 years. He was a fine bowler, and also served on the committee as the club’s entertainment secretary.
