Biography

Martha Hill competed in giant slalom for LW2 disability at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, placing third. The LW2 category is for athletes missing a lower limb above the knee. While she was in high school, she lost her leg just above the knee due to a bone tumor. She had been a ranked tennis player but was inspired to take up skiing when she met Diana Golden when they were students at Dartmouth. Hill said of her Olympic demonstration competition, “When we raced in Calgary we were representing not only the United States but all people with disabilities.”
