Biography

Born in Lyon in 1966, Samia Hachemi represented Algeria at international judo competitions throughout her career. In 1986 Hachemi won bronze in the -66 kg event at the African Judo Championships in Casablanca. Two years later women’s judo was included on the programme at the Seoul Olympics as a demonstration sport. Hachemi competed in the middleweight class at the Games, where she lost to the eventual winner Hikari Sasaki (JPN) in the first round, before losing again to Roswitha Hartl (AUT) in the repêchage round.
