Biography

Paolo Moci was an Italian general and aviator who flew more than 100 different types of aircraft, including 13 gliders, in which he competed at the 1936 Olympics, when it was a non-medal event. He received many military medals and decorations, including the Grand Cross of Knight of the Military Order of Italy.

When Italy entered World War II in 1940, Moci was involved in operations against the English fleet, and also against land and naval targets in the Middle East and in the Greece/Albania sector. After the war he enjoyed various top military positions. In 2000, he published a book for the Air Force Historical Office entitled Scritti e Discorsi – 1940/1998, and the following year published his memoirs Seguendo la Bandiera – life of an aviator. Moci’s medal collection and main decorations, along with other objects and documents, were donated by the family to the Air Force Historical Museum at Vigna di Valle (near Roma).
