Biography

Axel Berggren played in the basketball tournament that was held during the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. He represented the Chicago Central YMCA that finished second in the tournament. The team played two games, defeating the Xavier Athletic Club, but losing to the Buffalo German team that won the event, and won three games by default. Berggren scored 12 points against the Xavier AC and eight points against the Germans.

Berggren attended the University of Wisconsin where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and played basketball at the school. Berggren later became a printer and pressman. He married Mae Moot in Chicago on 24 October 1906, and they had one child, William. Both Berggren and his wife lived much of their lives and died in Chicago, she in 1945, and he in 1947.
