Biography

George Packard attended John Hopkins University and played on their lacrosse team, which represented the United States at the 1932 Olympics. Packard was an All-American first team midfielder in 1932. Packard appears to have started a familial tradition as several of George Packard’s attended John Hopkins in the next few generations.

At Johns Hopkins Packard also ran track and was captain for two years of the cross-country team. He later studied at the Virginia Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1937. In 1938 he became rector of the Church of the Epiphany in Govans, a Baltimore neighborhood. In 1952 he was made secretary of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland and later served as their chairman of public relations. In 1958 he was a Maryland alternate deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in Miami. He also edited the Maryland Churchman.
