Biography

Austrian flatwater canoeist Rupert Weinstabl won two medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, partnering Karl Proisl in the Canadian doubles. The pair won the silver medal over 1,000 metres and the bronze medal in the marathon distance over 10,000 metres.

After the Nazi German “Anschluss” of Austria the two men were forced to represent Germany at the 1938 World Championships, where they won the 1,000 metres gold medal and 10,000 silver. At the German nationals the duo won the 1,000 metres title from 1938-4, and the 10,000 title in 1938 and 1940-41.
