Biography

German backcourt handball player Frank von Behren placed fifth with his team at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and won the silver medal four years later at Athens. Internationally, he became European runner-up in 2002, and fourth in 2008. He won 168 international caps and scored 356 goals.

At club level, von Behren played with TSV GW Minden (1995-2003 and finally in 2008), VfL Gummersbach (2003-06), and SG Flensburg-Handewitt (2006-08). He helped Minden to win the German Supercup in 2001. He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.

Von Behren turned to coaching after his active career. He also worked as a TV expert with the German TV channels Eurosport and Sky. He became a sports agent and coached Bergischer HC in 2016. He then became sports director at GWD Minden and later with 1. VfL Potsdam. He married sports journalist Sarah Beckmann.
