Austrian architect Hermann Kutschera studied studied architecture in Munich and Vienna and later was appointed professor in Vienna. He won the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olmpic Games in the Art Competitions in the category Architectural Designs with his work Ski Jumping Stadium. Although it earned the gold medal, it was never built, and the plans were lost during World War II. Nevertheless, his ideas were later realized in several ski jumping stadiums. Kutschera was later one of the architects of the Wiener Stadthalle indoor arena and Wien-Schwechat airport. He avidly skiied cross-country and in the mountains for recreation.
