Biography

Belgian Désiré Piryns was a painter, draftsman and lithographer. His work showed a preference for cityscapes with figures, landscapes, figure paintings, portraits and images. The contrast between light and shadow played an important role for him, especially in works in which the colors black and white predominated. Piryns taught at the Institute des Arts et Métiers in Anderlecht, as a drawing teacher and craftsman. He exhibited at the Salon des Printemps in the Palace of Fine Arts in Bruxelles in 1936. “Bassin de natation” is a chalk drawing on paper measuring 51 x 73 cm and was created in the 1930s.
