Erik Raadal

Danish painter Erik Raadal was one of the first great Danish landscape painters, whose favorite motives were sleepy railway stations. He spent four years at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in København, where in 1929 he won the Neuhausenske Price for the picture A Craftsman. Raadal, who traveled to numerous European countries, first drew caricatures for magazines before entirely turning to painting. Raadal experienced his breakthrough as a mature artist in the late 1930s. He was married to the Artist Ellen Raadal, née Toustrup Madsen (1910-91). Raadal died quite young at the age of 35.

His 140 x 161 cm painting “Boxing Match” was created in 1930-32. The motif is rather unusual for this artist.
