Jeanne Deley, an avant-garde artist, signed her works “Jane Deley” and showed it at the Salon des Indépendants first in 1924, and later at other salons. At her insistence, she and her life-partner, former bicycle racer and then sports journalist Henri Desgrange, bought a château near St-Maxime, on the Mediterranean. Deley was a party-giver who liked to entertain at the home she shared with Desgrange, who was the first director of the Tour de France.
