Biography

French writer Charles Anthoine Gonnet won the bronze medal at the 1924 Art Competitions in the category literature with his novel Vers le Dieu d’Olympie (Face to Face with Olympia’s God). Most of his novels were only published after World War II, including his most famous: Aloha, Le Chant Des Îles (Aloha, The Song of the Islands). Gonnet also played rugby for the French national team from 1921-27. In 1924, he was a substitute for the French national team at the Paris Olympics, but did not play in any match. Gonnet was also a track and field athlete athlete, swimmer and boxer.
